Ougaki-shi is a city located in the deep southwest of Gifu prefecture. The city is known for its Bashou festival in honour of the haiku poet Matsuo Bashou, who died there. It is also known for the breathtaking Ougaki Castle, currently under construction. It's a perfect rural city, the folks are warm and welcoming, the streets are always clean and full of vegetable markets, there's no crime at all, everyone takes the bike instead of the car... However, it is facing the same major problem most rural areas in Japan are facing at the moment: younger generations are leaving their home city for bigger cities like Tokyo or Osaka.
Studioareion, an anime/CG graphic company based in Ougaki-shi, has a solution for the problem. It has started a project called "Ougaki Kyun Monogatari." The studio will create 200 anime-style characters who each represent a different street or area of the city. Every month they will be announcing six new different characters until they reach 200.
First released are:
Ougaki Yun. She is a 16 year old high school student. She lives in the centre of the city and she is called by her nickname, Kyun. She lived in Tokyo but moved to her father's real home, Ougaki. She met a really nice boy when she was little and thinks she still hasn't encountered him again.
Ougaki Shouko is a 19 year old college student who is Yun's sister. She has an independent and outgoing personality.
Ougaki Suito is 14 years old, and is Yun's little brother. He is the soccer team's ace. He is very popular with girls.
Minamiwakamori Riko is 16 years old and a high school student. She is Kyun's classmate. She is incredibly friendly with everyone.
Akasaka Satoshi is 22 years old and is Kyun's teacher. He teaches Japanese history and is quite a history otaku.
Sunomata Kazuya is 18 years old, and is a high school student. He is one year above Kyun, therefore he is her "senpai." He is very affectionate with women and is a strong feminist.
